Elderberry Syrup: What It Is, How to Use It, and Why We Make Ours Differently

Elderberry syrup has become a staple in many homes, especially during cold and flu season. But not all elderberry syrups are created the same.

At The Syrup Shop, we believe what goes into the bottle matters. Our elderberry syrup is thoughtfully crafted with simple ingredients and made in small batches with quality and consistency in mind.

Whether elderberry syrup is already part of your family's routine or you're trying it for the first time, understanding what's in it, how it's made, and how to use it can help you choose the right product for your family.

What Is Elderberry Syrup?

Elderberries are the dark purple berries of the elder plant and have a long history of traditional use, particularly during the colder months of the year.

Elderberry syrup is made by preparing elderberries with liquid and other ingredients to create an easy-to-use syrup. Recipes vary widely. Some are very simple, while others include herbs, spices, sweeteners, or additional ingredients.

At The Syrup Shop, we wanted to create an elderberry syrup that was simple, great tasting, and easy for families to incorporate into their everyday routine.

What Makes The Syrup Shop Elderberry Syrup Different?

When I started making elderberry syrup, I wanted something I would feel good about giving to my own family. That meant paying attention to the ingredients, the process, and the finished product rather than simply making another bottle of elderberry syrup.

Our elderberry syrup is made in small batches using carefully selected ingredients, including elderberries, raw local honey, herbs, and spices. We keep the ingredient list simple and focus on creating a syrup that tastes good enough that taking it doesn't feel like a chore.

Every batch is produced with consistency, quality, and care at the center of the process. The result is an elderberry syrup designed to be an easy addition to your family's everyday wellness routine.

What’s in Our Elderberry Syrup?

We believe simple ingredients matter. Our elderberry syrup is thoughtfully crafted with water, elderberries, local raw honey, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, apple cider vinegar, lemon essential oil, and orange essential oil.

Each ingredient was intentionally chosen as part of the recipe, creating a balanced syrup with the rich flavor of elderberries, warming spices, a touch of citrus, and the natural sweetness of local raw honey.

There are no complicated ingredient lists or unnecessary extras. Just a carefully crafted elderberry syrup made with ingredients you can recognize.

How Do You Use Elderberry Syrup?

One of the reasons elderberry syrup is so easy to incorporate into your routine is its simplicity. Our suggested serving for adults is 1 tablespoon daily. Children can take 1 teaspoon daily.

During times when you want a little extra support, the serving can be increased to 2 tablespoons for adults or 2 teaspoons for children, as needed.

Elderberry syrup can be taken straight from the spoon or added to foods and drinks. Many of our customers simply make it part of their morning or evening routine so it's easy to remember.

Keep refrigerated and follow the storage and serving directions provided on the bottle.

When Should You Take Elderberry Syrup?

There isn't just one “right” time to take elderberry syrup. The most important thing is finding a time that makes it easy to be consistent.

Some people take their elderberry syrup in the morning with breakfast, while others make it part of their evening routine. You can take it straight from the spoon or incorporate it into something you're already eating or drinking.

For many of our customers, elderberry syrup becomes a simple daily habit, especially during the fall and winter months or other times of the year when they want to be more intentional about their wellness routine.

How Should Elderberry Syrup Be Stored?

Because our elderberry syrup is made with simple ingredients and without unnecessary preservatives, it should be kept refrigerated.

Keeping your syrup cold helps maintain its quality and freshness. We recommend returning the bottle to the refrigerator after each use and always following the storage information provided on the label.

If you're picking up several bottles at once or stocking up for your family, be sure to check the individual bottles for storage instructions before opening.

Simple Ingredients. Thoughtfully Crafted.

At The Syrup Shop, we believe wellness doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with simple ingredients, thoughtfully crafted into products that are easy to make part of everyday life.

Our elderberry syrup is made in small batches with ingredients we carefully selected and a recipe we've refined over the years. Whether elderberry is already part of your family's routine or you're just getting started, we're glad you're here.
